You're the Worst's wonderful third season undoubtedly saw the most psychological and emotional progress yet for its stable of chaotic characters.
Don't be fooled into thinking it's just a comedy about awful people... It's actually a much darker examination of all the unpleasant aspects of life... But don't let that scare you, it is still deeply funny and extremely well-written.
The people on the show are cynical, but the show is not. It may not be confident in the ability of its characters in the short or the long term to act on their decency...but it is fully confident of their humanity and would have no direction without it.
The reason why the series remains one of TV's most slyly affecting comedies: The joke is, pain and laughter often emerge from the same broken places, and You're the Worst is as funny as a knife in the side.
After a standout second season, You're the Worst continues to redefine relationships outside of the bounds of romantic comedy.
Though You're The Worst's second season set a high bar, Falk and his team are only just getting started.
