While it may lack the budget or the big names of that show, Vikings nonetheless still engages, entertains and enthralls, thanks to a winning cast, grounded-in-history plotlines and bloody battles and sexy moments that push the boundaries.

Vikings gave us a lot to chew on during its Season 5 opener as the aftermath of Sigurd's death has led to tension between the remaining brothers, a boat trip to beyond for Floki, and Lagertha confronting the man who tried to secretly overthrow her.

As for the long view, settle in. Look to the lessons learned, and still being learned in thrilling, shocking ways by Lagertha and her fellow women warriors on Vikings.

As usual, Vikings is a bloody good mix of medieval sex and violence, family drama and even a little bit of authentic history.
