This series has been a disappointment.

While Electric Dreams is more diverse in tone and subject than Black Mirror's incessant nihilism, it struggles to maintain Charlie Brooker's timeliness with Dick's dated stories of androids and body snatchers.

Electric Dreams comes off as a sort of modern-day Twilight Zone, with not-so-very-special effects. I did like "The Hood Maker," "Safe and Sound" and "Human Is." But even these have twists too easy to predict.

... the good news is that, with so many more Dick short stories waiting to be adapted, there are a lot more questions for future seasons to ask.

The re-imagining of Philip K Dick's short stories immerses you in future-scapes defined by technology, environment, and the human spirit.

The latest Philip K Dick adaptation is a beautifully austere meditation on the kind of question that might underpin a fairytale: is it better to live a happy dream or to see the world clearly?

With this series and Netflix's Black Mirror, the sci-fi anthology series is now back as a revitalized genre.
January 17, 2018
Even when Electric Dreams' episodes are flat and predictable - and frankly, "Father Thing" is both - they're still well-acted.

Sci-fi anthology show has clever ideas, sex and violence.

Electric Dreams has something that predates Charlie Brooker's semi-dystopian tech drama: the work of the iconic genre writer for which it's named...it employs an impressive roster of writers, directors, and actors to put their own spin on Dick's oeuvre.

Unlike "Black Mirror," though, much of "Electric Dreams" is generally a more optimistic show, with less fatalist themes.

"Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams" is, in a word, embarrassing. From the juvenile production values to the unabashed "Black Mirror" fanfic, the show is one of the worst high-profile television series I can recall.

Electric Dreams is too content with what Dick already dreamt up.

There's so much more to discover here. That's always been Philip K. Dick's gift - a handful of pages in one short story spark countless new ideas and questions. The frustration doesn't diminish the experience of such a well-acted, enthralling thriller.

But mostly, they play with familiar ideas in conventional high-tech settings: They're futures that seem oddly dated.
January 12, 2018
With diverse storytelling and visuals, there's a lot to glom onto and enjoy in Electric Dreams. Like people who obsessively rank or debate episodes of Black Mirror, you can just assume that your particular highs and lows will be different.
January 12, 2018
Unblemished happily-ever-afters are rare in this genre, of course, but even so, too many of these bleak Dreams are a few watts short of electrifying.

Unless your mind is very fresh to these subjects, it will not be blown, but that is not to say you won't fret over the fate of the characters, or feel their feelings, or hope for the hopeful rather than hopeless outcome.
January 12, 2018
For all its speculative storytelling, Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams feels stuck in the past. It's philosophical, but lacking in subtlety.
January 12, 2018
The main problem is that almost everything here, perhaps unavoidably, has a been-there, seen-that undercurrent to it.
