Broadchurch used its same strengths from the first two seasons, where there was already a dual focus: the case and the community.
Broadchurch still succeeds in using its mystery as way of delving into deeper emotions.
For fans of the show's procedural elements, this is a good ending, and as "satisfying" a culprit reveal as could be. Still, in its final bow, Broadchurch jettisoned a lot of what made it so special, and that can only be seen as a missed opportunity.
This drama could be a disaster again - but the cast will do everything possible to turn it into a triumph. And that makes Broadchurch III too intriguing to miss.
... was wonderfully good, then appallingly bad, and now looks as if it might, tentatively, be good again.
